In 80% of cases, the programme developed by
The Institute of Neuro-Physiological Psychology (INPP) and delivered by Multisensory
Interventions works.
The detailed assessment and screening process is designed to ensure that the
level of expectations set are achievable.

Neuro-developmental delay assessment
This assessment consists of a series of non-invasive neurological tests which measure performance over a number of skills:
balance, co-ordination, patterns of motor development, reflexes, visual functioning and visual perception. Additional hearing threshold and auditory processing tests may also be carried out. These are particularly important for children with a history of delayed speech development and poor spelling.

The assessment process
- Complete the screening form, following the directions and return to
Multisensory Interventions for analysis. No fee is charged for this stage of the process, which helps to determine whether a neuro-developmental approach will be appropriate. If not, alternatives can be recommended.
- If appropriate, you will then be asked to complete the Children’s Questionnaire which provides a detailed background to your child’s strengths and difficulties at home, in school and in day to day living.
- An initial one hour consultation is then arranged which will provide an opportunity for your child's problems and history to be discussed in depth. It is also a time to look at areas of the
Children’s Questionnaire where there may be apparent inconsistencies or where further information is sought. As a dyslexia specialist, this is also a time when I can explain what can be provided in terms of screening and assessment for this.
- At the initial consultation there is also a screening of some primitive reflexes to determine whether there are grounds for moving to a full assessment. The movements your child would be asked to perform would be, for example, slowly marching up and down and balance related exercises. A full diagnostic assessment is not recommended unless there are positive indications via the initial assessment.
- A full Diagnostic Assessment is arranged and can take place on the same day as the initial consultation if necessary due to distance of travel.
- Following the assessment, your child is given a short programme of movements to perform at home every day. These are reviewed at
six weekly intervals and , as your child makes measurable improvements, these exercises change.
- Treatment lasts on average, approximately one year and progress is measured using a number of methods including, for example, assessments of reading, literacy skills, fine and gross motor skills.

About the programme of movements
Treatment lasts, on average, approximately one year and progress is measured using a number of methods including, for example, assessments of reading, literacy skills, fine and gross motor skills. In the majority of children, the scores relating to the assessments show significant measurable improvement. This is often reflected in improved social, emotional and academic aspects of the child’s life.

Screening for Dyslexia and Literacy Difficulties
A detailed assessment battery can be administered by Mary Mountstephen, who is a specialist in this field and who has many years experience of working with children in the state and independent sector.
This typically includes:
- Assessments of reading and spelling
- Dyslexia assessments
- Assessments of verbal and non-verbal ability
